Is Buying Maternity Clothes Really Worth It?

Maternity clothes can become a very expensive investment. And is it really an investment if you are never going to wear them again or may only wear them again years down the line? I think it all depends on what you buy. You can purchase maternity clothes that can easily be worn as regular clothes even after the baby is born. And you can also wear regular clothing that can easily be worn as maternity clothes. I would suggest trying to balance between these two options. Many maternity pants can still be worn after you have the baby as long as you wear a medium to long length shirt with it. Also, there are many shirts you can find that can pass as either maternity or non-maternity. In order to save money and still look fashionable whether you are pregnant or not, I would suggest shopping for the following types of clothing:

  • loose-fitting, non-maternity shirts
  • stretchy non-maternity shirts - a round, pregnant belly is cute and does not need to be conceiled
  • stretchy non-maternity slacks/pants
  • non-maternity pants that have a string to tighten the waist
  • baby-doll style maternity or non-maternity shirts
  • stretchy maternity slacks/pants
  • a nursing bra that looks like a regular bra with clips to open up and pull down the front
  • oversized cotton underwear
